The susceptibility levels of Varroa destructor to four pesticides: flumethrin, fluvalinate, amitraz and coumaphos were determined under laboratory conditions. The Varroa samples collected for this study came from three regions were beekeeping is practiced: Tejería, Veracruz: Gulf region migration route 1; Texcoco, Mexico, Central-Highland region migration route 1; Cd. Valles, San Luis Potosí, Central-Highland migration route 2; and Sabancuy, Campeche, Yucatan Peninsula region, were beekeeping is sedentary. To obtain the resistance index (RI), the CL50 of Varroa to the four pesticides was determined and compared to previously reported baselines. Bioassays were performed using the Burgerjon spraying tower. The highest RI belonged to the Yucatan Peninsula region. Flumethrin was the pesticide with the highest RI in all studied regions: Gulf 659, Center- Highland migration route-1 243, Center-Highland migration route-2 419, and Yucatan Peninsula 4,057. Coumaphos had the lowest RI in every region, from higher to lower: Yucatan Peninsula 3.9, Center-Highland migration route-2 1.9, Gulf 1.5 and Center- Highland migration route-1 2. The commercial presentation of Coumaphos in Mexico is not authorized for its use with bees. Varroa from the two migration routes had similar resistance indexes, so they behaved as a single population. The explanation for the highest RI being in the Yucatan Peninsula is that this bee population is isolated due to the beekeeping system which concentrates selected resistance genes. According to these results we designed a pesticide rotation plan, alternative treatments and ethological control in each of the beekeeping regions for a five year period. In this plan, coumaphos and amitraz where chosen to be used in the three studied regions during the first year. %G spa %[ 2023-12-07 %9 info:eu-repo/semantics/doctoralThesis %~ UAM %W UAM
